Meet Donna Jacobs
An Anishinaabe artist from Curve Lake First Nation, working with land-based materials and traditional processes.

Donna Jacobs is an Anishinaabe artist from Curve Lake First Nation whose work is rooted in healing, culture, and connection to the land. Working primarily in beadwork, quillwork, and painting, she creates pieces using natural materials such as birch bark, leather, caribou fur, sweetgrass, and other traditional medicines. Many of her creations incorporate materials she gathers and prepares herself, bringing intention and respect to every stage of the artistic process.

A self-taught artist, Donna began her art practice in 2020 as part of her sobriety and healing journey. What started as a way to keep her hands busy became a powerful path toward patience, self-discovery, and Mno Bimaadiziwin—the Anishinaabe teaching of living a good life. Through art, she found a way to reconnect with herself, her culture, and her community.

Today, Donna shares her knowledge through workshops and cultural teachings, with a particular focus on quillwork. She travels to communities across the region, bringing teachings from home and helping others build connections to traditional arts. Each piece she creates carries a story of resilience, renewal, and the belief that creativity can be medicine.
